Youth exchange empowering young people to fight misinformation, boost media literacy, and develop critical thinking and safe online behavior.
About the Project:
In today’s digital age, misinformation and disinformation spread rapidly, affecting young people’s ability to critically evaluate the information they consume. Studies show that in some European countries, the percentage of young people who regularly fact-check online news is alarmingly low: Cyprus (11%), Bulgaria (14%), Romania (15%), Lithuania (21%), and Latvia (27%). This lack of media literacy contributes to confusion, mistrust, and weakens democratic participation.
This youth exchange aims to address this challenge by empowering young people with practical skills to identify fake news, understand media biases, and develop responsible online behavior.
Project Objectives:
- To improve media literacy awareness among 35 young people by introducing them to key concepts such as misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, media bias, and algorithmic influence on content.
- To raise awareness among 35 young people from diverse backgrounds about the risks of misinformation and the importance of critical media literacy.
- To build practical skills for identifying disinformation, understanding how social media algorithms work, and using fact-checking tools to verify online content.
- To encourage safe and responsible digital behavior by reflecting on personal media habits, identifying online risks, and developing individual action plans for applying media literacy in everyday life.
We are looking for partner organizations from Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania and Latvia to join this youth exchange. Each partner should be able to recruit 7 participants (6 young people + 1 team leader) and collaborate on the preparation and follow-up activities.
