Mainstreaming Peace Education: Youth Worker Training

This is a KA1 – mobility of youth workers training project focusing on holistic approaches to peace education. For contact please e-mail projects@ashacentre.org

This project aims at mainstreaming peace education in youth work and promoting the competence framework as a practical tool for youth workers. The project’s methodology is based on a holistic approach to peace education (one of the fundamental principles underlying the Mainstreaming Peace Education framework), including inner peace, social peace and environmental peace as three key dimensions of True Peace. All methods used during the project will be non-formal, inclusive and participatory.

The project’s activities include three courses (one on each dimension of True Peace: inner, social and environmental), involving a total of 96 youth workers (32 people per course).

The courses will be held in October, November and December 2014 at the ASHA Centre (Gloucestershire, UK).

The courses will be run jointly by ASHA’s in-house team of trainers and facilitators with external inputs with experts in each of the domains (Inner peace/self-awareness, social peace/intercultural dialogue and environmental peace/education for sustainable development).

The project’s key objectives are:
- To mainstream peace education in youth work
- To train participants in peace education methods including three dimensions of True Peace: inner peace, social peace and environmental peace
- To share good practice and tools for peace education including the Peace Education Competence Framework and Practitioners Manual
- To strengthen co-operation between partner organisations, including development of future projects and resources

Project results and impact include: increased competences of participants, increased capacity of partner organisations, increased quality of joint projects and increased co-operation between partners.

Long-term benefits of the project include mainstreaming peace education in youth work and a more holistic understanding of peace including its personal, inter-personal and environmental dimensions.

The cost of board and lodging at the ASHA Centre, as well as the costs of the training programme will be fully covered by an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Grant.

As far as travel cost reimbursements are concerned, ASHA will reimburse a percentage of the overall cost (80%) up to the limits set out in the E+ Guide (flat rates).
