European seminar : urban music an educational and social tool

urban music can be an educational and social tool. Our seminar will propose to work at an european level to share good pratices and experiences on this subject.

Cultural openness in personal development is an important point for education. In addition to be a main source of knowledge, awareness-raising cultural activities are a tool for social inclusion and global European education. Aiming to integrate minorities and stigmatized cultures, this project needs a real collaboration between young generations and professionals of urban culture. This awareness can take various educational forms which have to be pondered upon and assimilated to build an efficient and sustainable tool for european structures/associations who work in the youth sector.
The emergent cultures are synonymic of artistic mutations, technologic developments and social transformations which translate society’s renewal. Therefore they represent a new educational instrument for us.
in addition to the artistic impact Urban cultures have a social role due to their working-class backgrounds. They have, nowadays, a large impact among young people. This art, neglected at the beginning, is an important way of expression like body, oral language or fine arts. The characteristic of street culture or hip-hop culture is to gather lots of disciplines: dance, music, paint, scripture, fine arts.
As a tool for social inclusion and the promotion of popular culture, it is important to enhance this culture through workshops in school programs and educational structures. That’s why we choose to work on urban cultures and specifically urban music.
The seminar that we propose can be a way to exchange at a European level on new educational tools. But it also be a place to share contents and projects already developed by all thepartners. We will try to answer to different questions: How to organize workshops on urban cultures with the young generation? What are the new educational tools set up at a European level? How to integrate urban cultures to those tools? How urban music can be the vector of social inclusion?
