Europe Enlightened

We look for high-schools and NGO-s interested to work with extracurricular activity and/or elective course for students on:
- critical thinking and information analysis skills;
- knowledge regarding essential elements of European history, science, culture and values;

In this proposal we set up the following OBJECTIVES of the project:
- To increase critical thinking and information analysis skills among at least 300 participants in 2.5 years of the project;
- To rise knowledge regarding essential elements of European history, science, culture and values among 300 participants in 2.5 years;
- To build in a network of at least 20 structures, in 2.5 years of the project interested in supporting the sustainability of the main products developed (syllabus, board-game and video game), in their activities;

The learner travels through Enlightenment, Discovery and Scientific Revolution ages of European history. The transcendental spirit of Europe will traverse ~400 years of what is considered among the richest European historical periods, from the aftermath of the 12th century crisis consisting in the great famine and black death, to the publishing of Diderot’s Encyclopaedia, which roughly ends Europe’s accelerated progressivism and subsequently, marks the start of the Age of Revolution.
The historical richness of this period is characterized, among many other events, by the following key elements grouped on three dimensions.

Social & economical dimension:
- Improved sanitation and knowledge on medicine, improved literacy and access to education, improved trade, trade safety, and development and strengthening of public institutions;
- Reduced gap between social classes, compared to pre-plague setting;
- Unification through a common faith, translation of the Bible & invention of the printing press which allowed dissemination of information among masses.

Cultural dimension:
- Development of utopian literature which extended upon philosophy and infused it with new ideas, giving birth to political philosophy improving societies;
- Development and standardization of music theory;
- Development of visual arts;

Political dimension:
- Emergence of the theory of government and evolution of philosophical rhetoric which would facilitate the emergence of a large base of ideas, some of which constitute foundations of modern western civilization - such as, for instance, the social contract, natural rights, liberty, property etc;
- Emergence of tolerance in the form of freedom of religion, provided it did not disturb public order or come against public conventional behaviour;
- The re-emergence of secular and religious institutions as separate, independent entities.

We look for NGO-s, high-schools or structures coordinating high-schools, interested to work with extracurricular activity and/or elective course for students on:
- critical thinking and information analysis skills;
- knowledge regarding essential elements of European history, science, culture and values;
