Empowering youth & women farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa with digital farming skills, market access & sustainability through EU-Africa partnerships.
The Digital Farming for Sustainable Futures project is designed to empower youth, women, and marginalized smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa by providing them with digital tools, agricultural knowledge, and market access skills. Many farmers face fewer opportunities due to economic, social, and educational obstacles. Economic barriers include low household income, lack of access to credit, and limited resources to invest in technology or inputs. Social obstacles include gender inequality, cultural norms, family responsibilities, and marginalization that limit participation in training or market access. Educational difficulties include low literacy and numeracy, limited formal education, lack of digital skills, and insufficient training in modern farming and e-commerce practices.
The project specifically targets youth and women farmers, aiming to enhance digital literacy, modernize farming practices, and improve access to national and international markets. Beneficiaries will gain practical skills in using mobile agricultural advisory apps, farm management software, online marketplaces, and digital marketing tools. The project will also introduce climate-smart and sustainable farming practices to increase productivity while protecting the environment. Peer-to-peer learning and local digital ambassadors will ensure that knowledge is widely shared within communities, promoting long-term sustainability.
Key activities include hands-on digital farming training, workshops on market access and e-marketing, mentorship programs, and demonstration farms equipped with digital technologies. Transnational knowledge exchange events will bring together EU and African partners to share expertise, best practices, and innovative approaches to agriculture. Monitoring and evaluation will track adoption of digital tools, productivity improvements, income growth, and overall impact on community livelihoods.
The expected results include:
a) Training 1,000+ farmers in digital and agricultural skills
b) Supporting 500+ digitally-enabled micro-enterprises
c) Increasing household income and market access for beneficiaries
d) Building a network of youth and women farmer digital champions
e) Strengthening EU-Africa partnerships for sustainable agricultural innovation
The project seeks European and Sub-Saharan partners to join the consortium. Partner roles include co-developing training materials, delivering workshops, providing mentorship and coaching, supporting monitoring and evaluation, and participating in transnational knowledge exchange events. Partners will help ensure that the project achieves measurable impact while fostering sustainable, inclusive agricultural practices.
By joining Digital Farming for Sustainable Futures, partners have the opportunity to collaborate on a high-impact, knowledge-driven agricultural project, promote digital transformation in farming communities, and help build sustainable, socially inclusive, and economically resilient rural livelihoods across Sub-Saharan Africa.
