Different but Equal

A long-term EVS project that aims to involve 10 volunteers in leisure education activities for disadvantaged children to facilitate their social inclusion.

The purpose of this project is to prevent marginalization of disadvantaged children and young people by involving them in leisure education activities, arts and sports activities. The volunteers will carry out activities such as: painting, handmade and creative workshops, recycling workshops, dance, sports: table tennis, football, badminton, basketball, chess.
Project duration: 15 months (01 August 2016 – 31 October 2017)
Volunteer stage duration: 9 months (01 October 2016 – 30 June 2017)
Partner organisations: 5 (each organization should send 2 volunteers)
The project takes place in 2 different towns, which are 20 km apart: Mărăşeşti and Focsani.
Our target groups are subject to the same risk of social exclusion, but have different profiles, so we intend to unfold the activities as follows:
• 6 volunteers to work with children and youngsters (4-18 years) with special education needs suffering from various sensory and cognitive disabilities in the School Center for Inclusive Education “Elena Doamna” Focsani.
• 4 volunteers to work with children and youngsters (6-18 years) with fewer opportunities facing educational difficulties, social and economic difficulties, Roma children, in 2 schools from Marasesti town.
The main objectives of the project are:
To promote active European citizenship among the 10 volunteers and the two communities, by involving them in leisure education activities targeted at disadvantaged children;
To develop solidarity and tolerance among members of the two communities in order to facilitate social cohesion in the EU and in particular among the 10 EVS volunteers;
To acquire new knowledge, skills and competences useful for the personal and professional development of the 10 EVS volunteers;
To increase social inclusion of disadvantaged children from Mărăşeşti and from the School Center for Inclusive Education “Elena Doamna” Focşani through arts and sports activities.
The secondary objectives of the project are:
To raise awareness of the two communities on the need to integrate the disadvantaged children and young people from Mărăşeşti and from CSEI “Elena Doamna” by the end of the project;
To develop a network of local volunteers who will be co-partners with the EVS volunteers during the 15-month project;
To increase the interest of local authorities in promoting the inclusion of disadvantaged children and young people in the community until the end of the project.
Participants’ profile
- young people aged 18-30 years old, willing to spend time with disadvantaged children and youth, patient, empathetic, and eager to learn new things. The volunteers should be responsible, flexible, and they should have a non-discriminatory attitude.
