Aphrodite's Children

The myth of Aphrodite and its impact on European artists over the centuries as a source of inspiration in arts, poetry, painting, music, sculpture, etc

The Project: The myth of Aphrodite in European Art
Basic Scope: Acquaintance with the myth of Aphrodite and the effect it has had on European artists to create excellent works in various art.
Young people will learn about the basic elements of the myth, its variants and the works created from its impact. Through works of art they will know the origins of the myth and its course in ancient Greek mythology, but also how a myth has been able to inspire different artists from different societies over the centuries, centered on beauty and femininity.
The main objectives of the program are:
Young people will come in contact with elements of ancient Greek culture that is also part of mythology. They will experience the journey of myth through various arts and at different times, and will compare their impact and interpretation in the arts of different cultures or even in the art of their country if relevant.
The program will take place on the island of Kythera, which is inextricably linked to Aphrodite, so young people will come in contact and receive stimuli and pictures from the place where the goddess was born according to the myth.
Young people themselves or groups will try to create their own small works of art that inspire them from myth and the environment. They will then be asked to present them and enter into dialogue by comparing their own interpretations of the myth.
In order for young people to understand the role of myths as the foundations of European culture, they will be asked to exchange views, knowledge and stimuli and to arrive at a conclusion that will summarize it.
Thus they will discover by themselves that art through the management of myths unifies European civilization by creating common places and overcoming the dividing lines of language or local traditions and habits.
The program will last for 10 days and will take place on the island of Kythira.
