Allegories on Racism Manifestation

We have decided to increase the number of partners. We are looking for two more partners involved in anti-racism and/or anti-discrimination work.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
As an artistic form, an allegory is hereinafter referred to as both a narrative and visual representation of racial and gender minorities’ stories in which their lived experiences are interpreted to represent a hidden psychological effect when discrimination and racism are internalised. Placing and presenting racism in a historical context of more racially prejudiced European societies and holding them accountable, must take on a new course in public discourse; we need to change how we talk about racism and where we place focus. Talking about racism should focus on its survivors and victims, and thus, we need to create public spaces for the survivors and victims to talk about their lived experiences of discrimination and racism.

But here, we are not talking about discriminatory and racists events, we are talking about the survivors and victims inner suffering; the emotional, psychological effects of those discriminatory and racists events on their survivors and victims. We want the survivors and victims to recognise their inner suffering, perceive and interact with their emotions, and start the journey of healing. We want today's more racially prejudiced European society to recognise its behaviours, attitudes, and prejudices about racial minorities who are deemed different from them. Hence, the project uses allegories as narrative and visual stories that convey this complex, abstract, and difficult message. It will achieve this through storytelling and art. Humans naturally gravitate towards stories; stories are powerful and compelling! Therefore, by using storytelling and art to talk about sufferings from internalised discrimination and internalised racism, allegory takes advantage of our inclination towards story.
