Youth Against AIDS

Youth Against AIDS main activity is the peer education Studies have shown that peer education is the most effective way to inform and educate young people not only about HIV / AIDS, but also for other young people and the important stuff, such as the relationship between violence, sexual initiation, etc..

Young people are much more freely and openly talk with their peers, the more they trust, so important that young people receive accurate information about issues affecting their physical and also mental health. Peer educators provide young people the possibility of running interactive, interesting, binding activities, which do not simply read the facts and instructions. These classes are involved in the young people themselves, they play themed games, discuss, share their experiences and thoughts, no condemning, without judging, without offending.

YAA works specially trained and certified peer educators who go not only to Riga, but also all the Latvian general schools, vocational schools, youth centers, youth clubs for young people in an understandable way they talk about important things. Peer educators also seek to change youth attitudes towards a variety of common stereotypes and prejudices.

VI, but not the only thing we are doing! NPD has several years experience in an informative and educational seminar activities. There are seminars and training for young people, students, teachers and other youth workers about HIV / AIDS, STIs, contraception, sexuality, and the dependence of various prevention.

YAA also organize thematic events young people's favorite clubs and entertainment venues, such as World AIDS day devoted to awareness-raising activities and charity concerts. Yet, both alone and together with other like-minded organizations that organize a variety of street actions and measures.

But the main thing - YAA young volunteers who are specially trained peer educators regularly run interactive lessons in Latvian schools.

Recently, we have successfully implemented a number of European Voluntary Service (EVS) projects - the company Latvian young volunteers from Italy, Germany, Turkey, Spain, and have sent an EVS several young people from Latvian to EU countries (Denmark, Czech Republic) and the EU's neighboring countries (Russia, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine).

We have also implemented a number of art projects - installation / photo exhibition "Doors" in cooperation with Russian organizations, as well as the photo exhibition "Changing Faces" on anti-discrimination issues.
