Payas Belediyesi

Payas - while it was an agricultural and horticultural town in 1970s - the district of Hatay province has reached the population of 7000 to 40000 after the establishment of the iron and steel factory; İsdemir. Since then the steadily growing city Payas has become a district in 2013. It has been one of the favourite districts of Turkey with its history and natural beauty. %40 of the steel production of Turkey has been produced by the industrial facilities located in Payas. In this context iron and steel industry is the most important source. But this situation also creates serious environmental pollution. The largest pollution of this sector is air pollution. Since low air quality is the largest problem of the district society, remedy to this problem has been sought for years. In accordance with the environmental law and the provisions stated in the other laws, the essensial measures have been taken and air quailty has been tried to be controlled by regulations. The industrial sector growing from day to day in the district is sometimes insufficient on this matter.
The target of our project is to create awareness and provide information for the youth located in industry organisations, educational institutions and related non-governmental organisations (NGO) about preventing air pollution. Learning the successful implementations in EU countries, adaptation of them to our country, transferring this to the youth, to the institutions and to the organisations in Payas is planned.
Coorperation will be carried out among teachers studying at Mustafa Kemal University in Hatay and their students, engineers working in industrial organisations in Payas, NGOs working for environment and the staff working about this matter in our municipality. By this coorperation, the related implementations of the successful and inovative methods for the air quality improvement in the partner countries within the context of Erasmus+ will be learned at its place by the created technic committe. Methods learned by our committe will be turned into a guide and delivered to the air pollution causer companies through seminaries, conferences, booklets or brochures. The successful and innovative implementations obtained will not only be shared in Payas but also the in other provinces will be informed.
Sharing the studies of air pollution cleaning and preventing in EU countries has been planned with this project among the municipalities of our province, industrial facilities, environmental audit units and universities.
