MUNICIPALITY OF ALTEA

Altea is a municipality located on the province of Alicante (Valencian Community), Spain. It has a population of 23,000 inhabitants, increasing significantly during summer months. Its main
economic sector is tourism, followed by agriculture and fisheries. Altea Municipality offers a wide range of services focus on the economic and social development of the municipality.
Activity Sector: Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment, Department of Culture, Department of Commerce, Economy and Enterprise, Urbanism, Sports, Department of Social welfare, equality and health.

The Municipality of Altea (Alicante) is implementing the Economic Promotion and European Programs Department with the aim of fostering economic development and employment in Altea. After evaluating the current situation in Altea, we have marked the following items of the utmost importance:

1. Creating employment for young people.
2. Improving their education
3. Generation of wealth in the town.

Altea is focused on providing young people with education by allowing them to access to the labour market.

We believe that young people who participate in a education program and gain experience abroad have valuable competencies that are really appreciated by private companies.

My department also offers a “Entrepreneur Service”, which gives legal, financial and economic advice for launching a business idea in Altea. Once the project is implemented, the Economic Promotion and European Programs Department monitors its development for two years. Moreover, we address our efforts to companies providing them with specific courses and advising over open competitions and European financing.

In addition to this, I also lead the public service for European Programs, which is addressed to local enterprises and the City Hall of Altea. The Municipality of Altea considers that acquiring this knowledge is vital to bring to the attention of the younger generation, employed or unemployed, giving them the scope and ability to help themselves to file and submit their projects.
