Kurjen ekokyläyhdistys ry

Kurjen ekokyläyhdistys ry (Kurki eco-village association) is the Lead organisation hosting volunteers. We have received more than 50 volunteers from different European countries since 2013. We aim to host several volunteers each year. Their time of residence varies from half a year to one year.
The objective of Kurjen ekokyläyhdistys is to promote a holistic and ecological lifestyle, aiming for global sustainable development, as well as to encourage commonality and solidary values. The fulfilment of these aims is a major part of the everyday life in the village, where the association operates and which also acts as a home to its members and the volunteers alike. In practice, ecology and sustainable development are implemented through people care, earth care and fair share. The buildings of the ecovillage are renovated and constructed using organic, breathable materials and honouring the traditions of Finnish rural construction. Communality is fostered and developed in the village by e.g. joint meetings, practical projects, work bees, celebrations, common dinings and free-time activities. These distinctive activities are motivated by a desire to create a new kind of social culture, promoting as well the development of the rural areas. Cherishing multiculturalism, creating international connections and promote more inclusive activities are important aspects worked through our project. The target group of our activity includes everyone who shares our values and aims or is interested in getting to know them. We function in the close-by environment as well in international platforms, where we represent and connect people over borders. Our village welcomes different kinds of visitor groups and we arrange cultural events that are open for everyone to attend (seasonal celebrations, art performances, children’s events), as well as different courses and educational occasions. Our association is religiously and politically uncommitted.
