Film Research Association (FAD)
Founded in 2022 by academics from Sakarya University's Cinema-Media Department, the Film Research Association (FAD) is a dynamic force in film studies and cultural engagement. FAD’s impact has been felt through key initiatives such as the International Film Studies Symposium, the Turkish Journal of Film Studies, and its active role in the Sakarya International Short Film Festival. FAD is committed to bridging the gap between academia and wider society, fostering cultural diversity, and advancing cinema culture through its events, workshops, publications, and partnerships.
The association hosts annual symposiums, festivals, and publishes a peer-reviewed journal to promote critical film studies. Its mission extends to preserving and transferring national and international cultural heritage through film, particularly engaging younger generations through educational workshops and seminars. Key members, experienced in cinema, culture, and sustainable social development, drive FAD’s initiatives, ensuring the growth of film literacy and education in Turkey and beyond.
Notably, FAD has been a significant stakeholder in the Sakarya International Short Film Festival, promoting environmental awareness through dedicated film categories. Additionally, FAD members have made notable contributions to the CinEd project, translating pedagogical kits and organizing workshops, further strengthening their role in international film education and cultural exchange. Through these endeavors, FAD continues to shape the future of film research and education.
