Community Horizons

Community Horizons intends to support and further community cohesion, diversity awareness and anti-discriminatory practice in Plymouth and surrounding areas by offering specialised projects and integrative workshops to a widely diverse range of people. The focus will be on cultural diversity awareness. Our projects and workshops will be a forum for participants to express themselves and share their knowledge and experiences of their journeys, their personal cultures and their lives in the UK. By developing communication skills, projects and workshops equip participants to engage, integrate and better connect to the communities they live in. Our projects raise particularly diversity awareness and challenge stereotypes.
Core Aim
Our core aim is offering services, projects and workshops for the whole community with a focus on including disadvantaged groups through all forms of art. We do this by
• Setting up and running a wide variety of sessions, based on diverse cultures and the awareness raising of diversity and the importance of anti- racist approaches to community work.
• Supporting local schools, colleges and universities with integration of migrant and BME students whilst furthering diversity awareness and cultural cohesion through a range of workshop sessions.
Objectives of aim:
We use creative and innovative methods to engage people of diverse backgrounds through non-formal and informal learning in order to:
- Build good relations / encourage interaction / build trust between individuals and community
- Communications: belonging / valuing diversity
- Facilitate intercultural dialogue and learning / dispel myths / challenge misconceptions
- Tackle inequalities
