Circolo Baobab

"Il circolo Baobab" is a social promotion, educational, lay and no-profit organization born in may 1999.

GOALS
GOALS
The goals of the "Circolo Baobab" concerns education, training and malaise prevention of children, teenager and young people. Its initiatives are directly and undirectly aimed to an improving in ambiental, social and cultural context for children, teenagers and young people, not necessarily associated to the Association. Furthermore Baobab aims to improve the life and the relations of local comunities and their inner dynamics .

ACTIVITIES

Baobab plans and realizes projects, initiatives, activities and events dealing with peace education, education for intercultural development, education for fair opportunities and respect for the diversities, education to global citizenship, human rights and anti-racism.
Baobab also manages centres and initiatives to favor youth aggregation, contrast malaise episodes among young people, help social and cultural exchange between different cultures and generations, support experiences of educational work and in general to promote youth employment.

At last, the association deals with:
• solidarity, international cooperation and decentralized cooperation.
• ambient and social ecology.
social turism promotion, as a way to enhance and provide a better awareness between the people and the territories they're living in, starting from the organization of twinnings, work-camps, international exchanges, aware turism and educational turism.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PROJECTS REALIZED IN THE LAST YEARS

• 2010-2016 (still running) Ideation and realization of the Interactive Exhibit “di Razza Umana” aimed at preventing and decreasing racist stereotypes and prejudices. The exhibit, commissioned by Unicoop Firenze was set up in 60 cities in Tuscany and provides the training of the workers that supervise it in loco.
• 2004-2016 (still running) Management of the "Zak" Youth Centre in Camucia.
• 2010-2016 (still running) Management of the "Onda D'Urto" Youth Centre in Arezzo.
• 2013-2015 Ideation and realization of the Live Role Game "Processo alle migrazioni" aimed to secondary schools. The process takes place inside an installation that recreates the environment of a courtroom. The game has been set up in 10 cities in Tuscany providing the training for the operators.
• 2009-2014 Ideation and realization of the project "Cicciottà una minicittà per educare alla cittadinanza globale" aimed to elementary and middle schools and supported by Regione Toscana.
70 classes from the region took part at the project coming from Arezzo and Firenze.
• 2011-2012 Tutorship for the project "Pari o Dispari" about analysis and dejection of gender stereotypes and for the promotion of Fair Opportunities. The project was supported by EU.
• 2011 Participation at the project “Juventud: Diritti in Rete” from "Tavolo America Latina" of Regione Toscana. Circolo took part at the mission of assestement in Perù, at managing and helping the focus groups and partners of the project.
• 2011 Ideation and realization of the project "Cicciottà dalla città divisa alla città solidale" aimed to elementary and secondary schools and realized in 40 classes from Dominican Republic for the "Comitato per la Cooperazione Decentrata Aretina" and "Oxfam Italia".
• 2009-2010 Ideation and realization of the Interactive Exhibit "Cicciottà una ecosimcity educante" supported by Regione Toscana. 40 classes took part at the project from elementary schools and secondary schools in the Arezzo's provincia.
• 2009 Ideation and realization of the project "Cicciottà una minicittà per educare ai diritti", realized in the Gaza Strip for the programme "Protezione dei minori a rischio fondata sul coinvolgimento delle comunità locali nella striscia di Gaza" di Save the Children, finanziato dalla Cooperazione Italiana.
•2007 Realization of the micro-project of international cooperation entitled "Non più sole", supported by Regione Toscana, providing the realization of an educational path aimed to strengthen self-confidence and to provide the right instruments for conflict resolution in a group of women (mothers and teachers) from the Gaza Strip (center and southern areas).
• 2005-2006-2007 Management of the Youth Centre "Centro Pass" (Centro giovani, Informagiovani) in Foiano della Chiana and the project “Foiano Territorio per tutti” which included the opening of an intercultural shelf and the realization of a community development path for the growth of intercultural relationships between foreigner and inner communities of the city.
• 2005, 2006, 2007 Collaboration with "Cric" from Reggio Calabria for the realization of 3 educational courses for the Ludobus operators, about cooperative games and conflict education games and 3 educational courses about the organization of environments and the planning of the activies for teachers from kindergartens. At last the two Associations realized a course for the educators from the "Cana'an Institute" in the context of the project "Social-educational support to the children of Jabalia, Rafah and Khan Younis - Gaza Strip" of the Echo programme from European Commission.
• 2004 Tutorship for the project "P.O.I. possibili occasioni di incontro" for the "Gioventù" programme, realizing 3 initiatives aimed to young people realizing a video about the topic of intercultural relationships between inner and foreigners communities in the comune of Foiano della Chiana.
• 1999-2005 Ideation and realization of the Interactive Exhibit "Io non sono razzista, ma..." with three paths for an intercultural society for Unicoop Firenze, Coop Centro Italia, Coop Adriatica. The exhibit, aimed to middle schools was hosted in 40 italian cities and even included the education for the entertainers about the topic of anti-racism and development education in the different hosting cities.
