SkillUp: Core skills for youth workers

Training Course

30 May - 7 June 2026 | Busteni, Romania

The aim of the project is to support youth workers at the beginning of their journey, providing them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to carry out quality youth work.

The project will use practical methods and collaborative learning to create a safe environment where participants can strengthen their competences and gain confidence to act as trainers, mentors and facilitators in their communities.

Objectives:

During the 12-month project, the 25 participants will develop skills in motivation, social inclusion, non-formal learning and conflict management through training and practical workshops.

By the end of the project, each participant will create a portfolio with at least 20 non-formal methods adapted to their youth work practice.

At least 90% of participants will increase their professional confidenc, and at least 20 of them will initiate or co-organise new activities for young people

The participants will engage in practical and interactive sessions focused on getting to know each other, developing skills in motivation, leadership and effective communication, understanding social inclusion through field exercises and visits to local NGOs, exploring methods to build trust and selfesteem among disadvantaged youth, learning conflict management strategies through Forum Theatre and examining nonviolent communication as well as the differences between non-formal, informal, and formal education.

Regarding the 8 key competences, our project contributes specifically to the development of the following:

1. Personal, social and learning to learn competence – participants will acquire essential social skills, such as constructive communication and conflict management. On a personal level, they will learn to set relevant goals, self-motivate and support the motivation of others. They will have time and support for daily reflection, self-assessment and defining areas for improvement.

2. Entrepreneurial competence – participants will be encouraged to actively contribute to all stages of the project, from preparation to dissemination. They will work in teams, initiate new activities in their NGOs and propose creative solutions to make activities more attractive and inclusive for young people with fewer opportunities.

This project is designed as a complete learning experience, aimed at supporting the professional and personal growth of youth workers and generating long-term impact in the communities they are part of.
