Course purpose: This is a training-trainers course designed to provide participants the theory and practical experience of innovative, interactive and creative methods for teaching and improving intrapersonal and interpersonal life skills through education, creating better learning environments and offering the learners opportunities for participation and cooperation. Course methodology: - Experiential, co-operative, active learning methods - Group discussions and teamwork - Group and personal reflection, observation of individual and group dynamic processes - Creative arts, humour, peer support, relaxation, excursions - Power-point presentations of the theoretical background - Poster presentations of participants' cultures and ways of working with adults - Outdoor activities - Traditional Cypriot games Preliminary Course Program: Arrival on Sunday, 15/4/2012 Settling in the hotel Day 1: Monday, 16/4/2012 Introduction to the course, the training organization and Cyprus Ice-breaking activities Session on social and emotional learning Group building activities Reflection Welcoming reception (evening) Day 2: Tuesday, 17/4/2012 Ice-breaking activities Cooperation and trust-building Session on self-esteem, self-awareness and learning Session on working with an intercultural perspective Participant poster presentations Day 3: Wednesday, 18/4/2012 Communication, cooperation and problem-solving activities Session on communication and problem-solving skills Relationship skills and exercises Day 4: Thursday, 19/4/2012 Visit to the Troodos mountains, with fieldwork on inclusion Lunch in local taverna Afternoon walk in traditional village, visit to local winery International night party Day 5: Friday, 20/4/2012 Emotion management and conflict resolution activities Session on Group dynamics Learning styles, role of the learning facilitator Implementation of active learning methods in Cyprus Discussion on ideas and good practices across Europe Day 6: Saturday, 21/4/2012 Half-day visit to Paphos (including visit to ancient theatre site) Closing and feedback activities (at training site) Course evaluation Farewell dinner Departure on Sunday, 22/4/2012

One of our goals as an Association for the Development of Life Skills is to inform and educate people who work with the development of emotional and social intelligence, both in young people and in adults. Life Skills include both intrapersonal and interpersonal qualities. Intrapersonal life skills include self-awareness, self-control, self-esteem, self-confidence, self-respect, self-reflection and self-acceptance. Interpersonal life skills include effective communication, cooperation, teamwork and problem solving abilities, respect of similarities and differences, appreciation, empathy, trust and love.

Costs

The total fee for the course is €1300 (€750 for tuition and materials and €550 for accommodation [7 nights] and all meals). Participants can apply for a Grundtvig grant from the National Agency (Lifelong Learning Program) in their own country ( http://ec.europa.eu/education/lifelong-learning-programme/doc1208_en.htm) in order to cover the course fee. The deadline for the grant application is 16/09/2011.
