A youth participation project strengthening the role of young people and youth organisations in climate diplomacy and climate-related decision-making processes.
This project focuses on strengthening the role of young people and youth organisations in climate diplomacy and climate-related decision-making processes at local, national and European levels.
Climate policies, international negotiations and long-term climate targets shape the future of young people, yet youth participation in these processes remains limited across many countries. Youth organisations often lack access, policy knowledge and practical tools to engage with climate governance in a structured and meaningful way. This project responds to that gap.
The project will support youth organisations and young people to better understand how climate diplomacy works, including EU climate policies, national climate commitments, international negotiation processes and local climate governance. Rather than focusing only on awareness, the project emphasises participation pathways: how young people can follow policy processes, engage with decision-makers and contribute informed perspectives.
Key activities will include climate policy literacy workshops, climate diplomacy and negotiation simulations, non-formal learning activities, digital participation tools and structured dialogues with local and national stakeholders such as municipalities, universities and environmental actors. Each partner country will contribute its own context and experience, while working together to develop a shared framework for youth participation in climate diplomacy.
The partnership brings together different European realities, including countries with strong climate diplomacy experience, regions facing high climate vulnerability, digital participation leaders and contexts where youth representation in policy remains limited. This diversity allows for mutual learning and comparison while keeping the project grounded in real needs.
As concrete outcomes, the project will produce practical tools, methods and a Youth Climate Diplomacy Participation Roadmap that youth organisations can use beyond the project duration. The overall aim is to strengthen youth organisations as credible, informed and active actors in climate-related decision-making processes and to support more inclusive and participatory climate governance across Europe.
