FULL DESCRIPTION
The Global Organization for Development /G.O.D./ is a non-governmental organization established in 2009 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Before its official registration, G.O.D. implemented numerous initiatives, such as:
➢ A public lecture by Mr. Boyko Borisov in 2007 (then Mayor of Sofia; later three-term Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria);
➢ A series of leadership training lectures (2006–2008);
➢ Numerous debates on important issues related to youth and its development.
The main aims of the organization are youth empowerment and the development of civil society. Some of the NGO’s initiatives include:
➢ The national campaign “Youth Vote” – an initiative of AEGEE (Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe), further developed in Bulgaria. The campaign contributed to increased youth turnout in Bulgarian and European Parliament elections;
➢ Workshops aimed at improving the social skills of young people with fewer opportunities in remote areas, enhancing their career prospects;
➢ Participation in and support for “Choice Box” – an initiative within the European Parliament’s information strategy;
➢ Co-initiation and co-organization of the Global Anti-AIDS campaign in Sofia, raising funds for people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa;
➢ An original project, “Let’s Return to Bulgarian Traditions”, financed by the Sofia Municipal Council;
➢ “Students and Security” – the first inter-university student conference in the field of security in Bulgaria;
➢ Public lectures delivered by ambassadors (USA, Japan, Germany), foreign service representatives, a retired DEA agent (USA), and the Brigadier General Commander of the 68th Special Forces Brigade (Bulgaria), currently Major General and Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command;
➢ The First International Creative Leadership Academy (August 2015), with Professor Frank Prochaska as keynote lecturer, funded by G.O.D.;
➢ Friedman Legacy Day 2016 – organized in Bulgaria with the support of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice (USA). The event was celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. Milton Friedman, a Nobel Prize laureate (1976), served as a trusted advisor to U.S. Presidents and numerous global leaders;
➢ Two tolerance campaigns (2016): one raising awareness and tolerance toward refugees and asylum seekers in Bulgaria, and another encouraging women’s participation in football. Both were co-funded by the Fare Network;
➢ Four campaigns promoting tolerance, equality, and inclusion of LGBTQI communities, also encouraging LGBTQI participation in football (2017, 2019 – two projects, and 2020), co-funded by the Fare Network;
➢ Support for a wide range of volunteer initiatives (sports, environmental, cultural, and entrepreneurship-related).
Since 2019, G.O.D. and its team have assisted and volunteered with the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta (Sovereign Order of Malta) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
G.O.D. manages a Facebook group (https://web.facebook.com/groups/817935094934401/) with more than 24,847 young members. The group aims to inform young people worldwide about development opportunities such as scholarships, university programs, internships, grant calls, and Erasmus+ projects.
G.O.D. also administers several groups and pages with more than 333,000 members and subscribers across social media from over 110 countries.
Since 2017, G.O.D. has been an accredited Eurodesk Multiplier in Sofia, Bulgaria.
To date, we have participated in more than 115 approved Erasmus+ projects and have coordinated and implemented three Eurodesk co-funded projects.
