"YIM - Youth In Music" - Youth Exchange

This ten-day Youth Exchange wishes to bring together 30 curious, motivated and creative young
people who are interested in Music Improvisation, 6 from 5 organizations active in Erasmus+ (5
Participants aged 18-30 + 1 Group Leader with no age limitation).

We imagined the project “YIM – Youth In Music” as a research possibility through practical and
experiential workshops about the infinite possibilities offered by music improvisation:
Everyone loves music, because everyone can do it.
Each one of us has a unique and unmistakable musicality.

Our project sets as a main objective to find the rhythm of each participant, bring it out and put it in
connection with the rhythm of the others.

The result is going to be incredible: a perfect Orchestra, made up of people who never met before!

To make music together, as well as to build a solid community together, it is important to learn how to
be with others.

When each person gives their best, the result is a wonderful sound, a compact one, that seems to
have a single body.
The same thing happens in a tight-knit community, in which every person gives their best to
contribute to the well-being of the entire group.
The most important thing is to learn how to create with others.

How are we going to do this? Through collective musical composition, making music on the
spot, guided by a music-leader.
And we are all going to learn how to be music-leaders, but most important, we will learn how to be
led. Led by someone? No, led by the music itself!

What we ask the partner organizations is to find participants interested in a sensory and practical
research work about music improvisation and about the theme of social inclusion, about music as a means of communication capable of going beyond spoken words.

We want to do a research work about a language, the music language, that everybody can understand and which is capable of building a strong community made of people who decide to take care of each other.

At the end of the project we would love to organize all together a final representation (like a
performance) open to the public as a feedback of the work we will have done.
