Would You Survive?

Disasters and emergencies have been increasing all over the world from earthquakes, floods, hurricanes up to explosions, terrorist attacks, pandemics and wars. This is a tragic and bleak perspective of the world we live in, but learning how to prevent, act and manage extreme events is essential in reducing its disastrous impact on the society, environment and economy.
As technology has evolved considerably in recent years, it has become easier for people to rely on electronic devices, apps and services that make life easier and enhance its quality. On the positive side, it gives youth access to more information on disaster management and an opportunity to share it online with their communities. However, it is important to teach youth, practically and empirically, how to prepare for adversity (for example, what material resources to save, how to pack an emergency preparedness kit) and equip them with the skills and knowledge required for survival.
Therefore, “Would you SURVIVE?” is a non-formal education project which aims to develop survival and social skills, increase knowledge about emergency management and promote common EU values, principles of unity and diversity among young people.
The specific objective of this youth exchange are to:
1. Explore the current situation regarding emergency preparedness programs in partner countries;
2. Learn relaxation techniques for stress relief and panic attacks;
3. Improve essential first aid skills;
4. Develop applicable skills and techniques that can be used to increase the possibility of survival (finding and purifying water, starting a fire, building a temporary shelter, navigating in the forest);
5. Enhance participants' knowledge to prevent, prepare, act and recover before, during and after an extreme event.
The youth exchange will involve 30 participants, from 5 countries of the European Union. The young participants should be 18 - 30 years old. Each national team will be composed of 5 youngsters and 1 group leader.
