The WISS project deals with the theme of survival skills in the wilderness as a youth work tool for outdoor activities
The WISS project deals with the theme of survival skills in the wilderness as a youth work tool for outdoor activities. Wilderness survival skills are defined as “a set of knowledge and techniques suitable for living in a natural environment, exploiting its resources to satisfy basic needs such as food and shelter. Normally the techniques used are basic and primitive and are based on the knowledge acquired by man during his evolution. Survival skills in the wilderness are not based on modern and technological equipment, on the contrary privileging the use of a few elementary tools with which to build the rest ".
The goal of WISS is to disseminate and make available the survival skills in the wilderness in an innovative way as a method of working with young people, in associative and non-formal contexts.
The project involves 8 partners from: Spain, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France and Italy as lead partners.
The main output (O1) is the creation of an e-learning platform on techniques and methodologies for survival skills, flanked by the creation of modules for the platform and subsequently training activities for operators (C1-C2 -C3-C4-C5) and cascade on young people from each partner country.
EXPECTED OUTPUTS:
● Output 1. COLLECTION OF GOOD PRACTICES and NEEDS ANALYSYS DEVELOPMENT
○ In the first 6 months, partners identify existing practices, techniques and methodologies for survival skills. Not only resources specifically designed for surviving, but also projects, services, methodologies, etc. that have proven effective in the survival in general. This aims to enrich the content of the online platform, making it as complete as possible for the upskilling of TCs and for resources for the project.
● Output 2.IDENTIFICATION OF EXISTING DIGITAL TOOLS
○ At the same time, existing digital tools will be researched and collected
● Output 3 – Development of Online Platform
○ The project will develop a single intellectual output (O1): an online platform for the education and training on techniques and methodologies for survival skills.
○ Developing 8 modules about the training:
1. Introduction
2. Background
3. Youth work principles and rationale
4. WISS activity topics
5. Case-studies
6. Learning & Development
7. Conclusion
8. Links and Resources
● Output 4.DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE E-LEARNING MODULES
● Field tests’ feedback will be used to further select the content and improve the design of I.O.2. Taking into account all previous evaluations and the final field test analysis, the E-learning modules will be designed, contents identified and adapted, and modules finally developed. The E-learning modules will be available in Dutch, English, Greek, Italian, Slovenian and uploaded on the I.O.1 platform.
For details on how this I.O will allow the achievement of project results, see section dedicated to the results and to I.O.2. The project’s dissemination will ensure that the platform and the E-learning modules will be known at European level, maximizing the impact and the spread of its use.
