This project's main objective is to search for and discover an answer for the question: why is feminism a dirty word for men?
About the project
The proposed project will bring together a group of twenty people which daily work focus on feminism and gender issues. Departing from perception of feminism as driving forward rights for women while crushing men underfoot has led to the creation of various men’s rights groups, some of which raise perfectly valid points and draw attention to men’s interests in fields where they may be compromised. We are living in a world of huge double standards when it comes, for instance, to domestic violence and men are on the bad end of the deal. At least this is what the majority seems to be feeling about issues like this.
Training in Czech Republic, 1-15 November 2017
To reach a bigger socio-cultural impact we plan a first training in a rural area of Czech Republic. During this activity, the participants will have the unique opportunity to experience and explore a more masculine perspective over feministic matters through the use of visual arts. In our opinion, the recognition of gender aspects enriches knowledge and sensitivity of local community on the multiple human identities and explain how compound and complicate oppressions and marginalization system work.
Partner's tasks
As a partner, we will need you to firstly apply by sending us an email with the PIF; secondly, once selected, by signing and stamping the mandate; then, if the project is approve, by joining us to develop and design the program and a dissemination plan; finally, by selecting participants to be part of the aforementioned project.
Project background and outcome
After Feminismifragilisticexpialidocious, a Nomadways training in which artists and activists came together to developed art books on the theme of feminism in 2015, we aim to hold now a project looking for a more masculine point of view on the matter and to create tools and methods to address it amidst groups of young people with fewer opportunities. By other words, the project is developed to cause a productive dialogue between youth workers, young leaders, artists and activists from all over Europe on the theme of gender equality and sexuality in its complex historical and cultural formation and its issues through visual arts.
To achieve our goals, participants will come together to discuss their personal and professional experiences on the influence of visual arts on the conception of gender and sex. This dialogue will be built through the exchange of workshops and training using non-formal learning methods: discussions, theater, visual productions, group writing, practical and physical activities. All workshops will be led by the participants for participants according to taste and expertise of each one. During the workshops, the group will have to develop and implement tools and exercises using visual arts to address the issue of feminism. All workshops will lead to the creation of multilingual art books, educational activism objects made of stories and images.
The share and appropriation of intersectoral and European educational tools enhances personal development and employability of participants. By strengthening key competencies and skills of youth workers from partner countries, our goal is to improve the quality of education, training and youth work throughout Europe. The participation of animators, educators, artists, sociologists and activists aims to develop the quality of youth work, to strengthen cooperation between the youth sector and the labor market and to support and develop policy youth based on knowledge and research. For the participants, exchange experiences with other professionals from different European contexts and countries and develop together new intercultural work tools also gives them the opportunity to form international networks contacts, to actively participate in the society and develop a sense of European citizenship and identity.
