Waves: Widening Acess to Volunteering through Volunteering and Empowerment

Concordia contributes to the development of an intercultural society, based on the values of solidarity and collaboration. It aims to promote individual empowerment and critical thinking to enable the emergence of active and conscious citizens.
In partnership with a local organization called Cap Au Large, which has been working for more than 20 years in the access to persons with disabilities to the world of sailing, we are proposing you a 21 days European training.
For more than 20 years, the organization Cap au Large has developed sailings adapted to a public with reduced mobility and works for social inclusion in the world of sailing. The meeting with Concordia has opened up the possibility of exchanging with other youth and social workers on good practices implemented in each country in order to link sailing and social inclusion. The combined skills of the two associations led us to imagine an ambitious project linking the practice with the theory of the use of a tool such as sailing in social projects and youth. The choice of sailing, which is a specific environment, with a live together for 3 weeks will allow participants to get out of their comfort zone, get their limits and their place in a group, create a real coordination, mutual help and complementarity within a sailing team with very different profiles.
For Concordia and its international partners, this partnership makes it possible to implement in a very concrete situation the inclusion of public with special needs, NEETS and JAMO on international projects.

Project description:

The training will take place as part of a cruise around the Mediterranean with the theme of sailing as a tool for emancipation and social cohesion.
The training will take place over a period of 21 days

Objectives

-Promote the discovery of the tool of sailing and the positive impacts of restrictive environments on young people, particularly for publics far away from mobility projects
-Implement concretely the inclusion of NEETS, JAMO and reduced mobility publics in international mobility projects
-Value local initiatives and stimulate the imagination of participants
-Open opportunities for future collaboration and networks via meetings with local organizations and time to reflect on joint projects
-Promote intercultural meetings between youth workers on their innovative practices in supporting young people and establish innovative practices in social support
-Raise awareness of the environment, biodiversity and responsible behavior during youth activities
