Volunteering - Active Participation in Civil Society

Sarıyer, located in the north of the European side of the Istanbul Strait, is the neighbour of the Black Sea in the north, Eyüp in the west, Beşiktaş and Şişli in the south. The province is consisted of the hillside at the most eastern of Çatalca peninsula, the Istanbul strait on one side, and parts descending in the Black Sea. Settlement lies on the shore in Sarıyer which has a coast in the Black Sea and the Bosporus. The limit on the coast starts from Aşiyan and continues until the Black Sea shore. And Mr.Sukru Genc is the sixth Mayor of the district, which has been administered by different managements since it was founded in 1984.Sarıyer Municipality provides services for Sarıyer with 7 Vice Mayors, more than 20 directorates and 1711 personnel under the management of Mr. Şükrü Genç. In 2010, the European Union and Foreign Affairs Directorate of Strategy Development Unit has been established. This unit of foreign and domestic other local government, is responsible for carrying out activities contributing to the development of the district and enhancing the institutional capacity of the municipality and for the cooperation with universities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Sarıyer Municipality with the European Union and Foreign Affairs Unit participated in many EU call for project proposals with their own projects. Some of the projects carried out by the EU and Foreign Relations Department;
In the context of Strengthening Civil Participation at the Local Level Grant Program, in partnership with Kilyos (Kumköy) the Association of Natural Environment Protection and Environmental Culture Development "To Protect Sand Lily in Sarıyer" project carried out successfully.
In 2011, with funding from the EU Civil Society Dialogue-II Agriculture and Fisheries Grant Program "Local Steps Towards the Implementation of the EU Marketing Standards" fishing project was implemented and completed successfully April 2012.
1.1 Call for project of Youth in Action of the National Agency, with the Institute for European Initiative in Bulgaria, "Local Government European Youth" (The Young People of Europe in the Local Authority) project was took place.
With a grant from the Consulate General of Sweden in 2011 "Sarıyer County Women's Council - Women's Decision Making Project was completed successfully.
Under the call for Turkish-Swedish Development Cooperation Strategy of Consulate General of Sweden –Istanbul, in partnership with the City Council Sarıyer, Project in Support of Women Entrepreneurs in Sarıyer villages was launched.
With the support of Consulate General of Sweden in 2012, Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Support Project was implemented.
Lastly, we received accreditation in November 2012 from European Union Education and Youth Programs Directorate in order to implement European Voluntary Service Programme (EVS). Within scope of the project, we will send 40 volunteers between ages of 18-30 from Sarıyer to EU Countries.
