Voices for Peace

About the Youth Exchange
Berlin is a key place of European and international history – shaped by war, division, violence, but also by reconciliation, freedom, and peace.
The international youth exchange “Voices for Peace: Youth Shaping Peace in Europe” uses Berlin as a space for learning and encounter, enabling young people from different countries to explore the connection between historical responsibility and contemporary peace-building.
Objectives
• Raising awareness among young people about the importance of peace, democracy, and human rights
• Reflecting on historical conflicts and their impact on today’s societies
• Strengthening intercultural competences and European cohesion
• Promoting active youth participation and civic engagement for peace
Target Group
Young people aged 16–27 from several European partner countries. The group is diverse and provides space for different perspectives, experiences, and cultural backgrounds.
Content & Methods
1. Learning Places in Berlin (Non-formal Education)
Participants will visit selected sites that symbolically represent war, division, resistance, and peace, such as:
• Berlin Wall / East Side Gallery
• Berlin Wall Memorial
• Holocaust Memorial
• Brandenburg Gate as a symbol of unity and peace
These places will serve as starting points for discussions, reflection sessions, and group work.
2. Workshops & Group Work
• Workshops on peace, conflict, culture of remembrance, and reconciliation
• Comparison of historical conflicts with current social challenges
• Creative methods
• Intercultural exchange on national perspectives on memory and peace
3. Transfer to the Present
Young people will jointly develop ideas on how peace can be actively shaped today – in everyday life, in the digital space, and within their local communities. The aim is not only to remember history, but to derive concrete impulses for action in the present.
