Artists and youth workers which work focus in rurality will come together to create a performance while highlighting their vision of the countryside.
About the project
The proposed project will bring together a group of twenty people which daily work focus on rurality, lack of opportunities and performing arts. By settling down in a village, discovering it, meeting its inhabitants, its history, the place where one comes from, commonalities and differences. Providing an alternative liveliness in the village, without any ambition, just to walk around, go to the market, have a drink in the local coffee shop and let the inspiration grow to create a new performance. This will shape our artistic cornerstone. Envisioning a place at a specific moment, confronting experiences and thinking about our memories to establish a dialogue where local and international elements simply mix

Project background and outcome
Twenty artists from all over Europe will spend a couple of weeks in an isolated village at western France. What do those artists share with the place and its inhabitants? At first sight not much, maybe the mere fact that they all come from rural areas. This common feature will be the first cornerstone of this meeting. Settling down in a village, discovering it, meeting its inhabitants, its history, the place where one comes from, commonalities and differences. Providing an alternative liveliness in the village, without any ambition, just to walk around, go to the market, have a drink in the local coffee shop and let the inspiration grow to create a new performance.
Envisioning a place at a specific moment, confronting experiences and thinking about our memories to establish a dialogue where local and international elements simply mix: What reminds me of home? What distances me from it? How to recall it? Using which configuration? Dance, theatre, circus, storytelling, music, puppetry… Multidisciplinary and intercultural approaches will shape the last cornerstones.
Through an understanding of local dynamics and different roles enacted by local actors, the artists will mobilize various talents to display these realities and bring forward the richness of exchanges.
This way, the participants will themselves facilitate workshops for the others. Through various encounters with the village and its inhabitants, the participants will develop new creation tools and learn new approaches and experiences. All these activities will constantly happen while interacting with the village in order to share this openness, and provide an alternative enlivenment, and who knows, maybe vocations will emerge from it!
If you would like to apply, send an email to louise@nomadways.eu or ophelie@nomadways.eu adding the name of the project as a subject.
