Communicate creatively about green lifestyle and climate change, through invisible theater.
** Deadline extended to 13 January **
** Before sending us a partner request, please read the Call for Partners (plus pdf attachment) carefully and make sure to motivate WHY your organisation wants to join this project **
It is hard to deny. The world around us is changing, and not always for the better. Every day we hear news about climate change, record warm winters without snow, desertification, air pollution, food crises, deforestation... All this bad news can make you sad and hopeless.
Let’s not give into these negative feelings, but rather use our creativity to inform people and to inspire them to make a positive change in their lives. Together we can make our world happier, healthier and greener!
During this Youth Exchange, 30 youths from 6 countries will meet in Latvia to learn how to use “Invisible Theater” to convey their message in a creative, non-pushy way. Invisible Theater is a theatrical performance made in a place where you would normally not expect it; on the beach, at the bus station, in a shop. It was first developed in the 1960s as a creative tool for activism against social oppression and it is still used successfully by artists and activists today.
During the Youth Exchange, participants will exchange information about the environmental situation in their community, share best practices for green lifestyle, work on their acting skills and together learn new ways to communicate about climate change through Invisible Theater.
Planned activities:
2-Day advance planning visit
(9-10 June 2016*)
Meeting in Latvia with 1 participant per partner organization to discuss possible contribution during and after the Youth Exchange.
7-day youth exchange in Latvia
(15-21 August 2016*)
Activities include: exchange information about environmental problems in our home communities, share best practices for green lifestyle, developing acting and communication skills, learning how to convince people, sharing online communication and movie-making skills.
On the final day there will be an excursion to a populated area (most probably the capital Riga) where we will perform our Invisible Theater in several locations. The performances will be registered by hidden (smartphone) cameras.
Follow-up
(September-December 2016)
Each group repeats the Invisible Theater performance (adapted to their own “stage”) in their home community and send their contributions to the movie editor. The resulting international film will be screened during events hosted by each of the participating organizations.
