The Partner-Finding Tool
What would happen if young people were to take on the role of local authorities and try to detect and solve their local community's challenges?
WHAT?
Project UNCOVER: youth action for local governance aims to raise the capacity of organizations for fostering active youth participation through exchange of good practices and designing the methodology for non-formal educational activity that will bring youth, youth workers, and stakeholders together to foster meaningful change in the local communities.
WHY?
Research results are showing the decline in youth’s socio-economic status, trust and interest in democratic processes and cooperation with local authorities, as well as a lack of involvement in the economic, political and social processes in their communities. A prevalent challenge is the lack of resources and opportunities for young people to actively engage in their communities according to their specific needs. There is a lack of non-formal education opportunities, especially in the field of civic education and active citizenship.
HOW?
The project " UNCOVER: youth action for local governance " wants to build the capacities of local organizations that work with youth, as well as to produce a non-formal curriculum for non-formal education of youth that will enable them to acquire skills for active citizenship. This is planned through the capacity building project consisting of two work packages:
1) Academy for youth Organizations, leaders, and NGOs: seminars, peer-to-peer learning, sharing of good practices, and education of youth workers. Some of the possible themes: dialogue of youth and stakeholders, advocacy for youth participation, gamefication and design thinking methodology in curriculum design, service learning, active citizenship, outreach and inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities, mentoring youth in carrying out of the local initiatives, visibility and marketing.
2) Curriculum for non-formal education for active citizenship. The main goal of the curriculum will be empowering youth for active participation in local community through simulation of local governance processes. The idea is to design a curriculum of the non-formal educational process that will ensure synergy of youth, youth workers, and local stakeholders to give youth a chance to directly solve a problem they see as important in their community: while engaging in a structured dialogue with the stake-holders, and simulating work of the local government branch in the process. The curriculum will be tested through mobility of youth and youth workers.
Of course, in discussion with partners the curriculum will be developed to suit needs of every local community as much as possible. The associated documents will also be designed (tools, methods, evaluation processes, skill assessment tools...) and shared.

About us:
Delta aims to support young people and empower them for active citizenship through non-formal education and participation in local communities. Many of our projects deal with building trust and cooperation of youth and decision-makers through structured dialogue. We are highly focused on supporting social and civic competences in areas where there is no formal or non-formal civic education. We want to support youth participation and youth work on the local level, because we believe it is a crucial step towards a healthy and active society that nourishes democratic values.
