nclusive arts project breaking barriers for youth with visual impairments through non-formal learning, tactile art & dialogue.
Cultural and visual art spaces still pose significant physical and cognitive barriers, often excluding youth with visual impairments and marginalized backgrounds from active cultural life. "Touch of Art: Seeing Beyond the Senses" approaches art not merely as an aesthetic visual form, but as a universal medium for social inclusion, non-formal learning, and intercultural dialogue. Through experiential learning and peer-to-peer methodology, the exchange empowers young people—both with and without visual impairments—to collaborate equally. The initiative challenges conventional perceptions of art by focusing on multi-sensory expression (touch, sound, space) and equips participants with practical competencies in cultural accessibility.
Key Objectives: To foster social inclusion, mutual empathy, and equal opportunities by uniting youth with fewer opportunities and their peers in a creative, safe environment. To develop key competencies in non-formal arts: tactile sculpting, spatial installation design, and live creative audio description. To dismantle stigma and societal stereotypes surrounding visual impairments and disability through direct peer-to-peer cooperation. To promote European civic values, solidarity, and accessibility in local cultural ecosystems. To reflect on learning pathways and validate acquired skills through the Youthpass framework.
Core Activities (Non-formal Learning):
Tactile & Spatial Workshops: Hands-on sculpture and installation creation using natural, textured, and upcycled materials.
Audio Description Lab: Collaborative exercises in translating visual concepts, imagery, and surroundings into descriptive, evocative speech.
"Dark Walks" & Sensory Exploration: Trust-building outdoor/indoor activities designed to explore spatial perception and orientation without visual cues.
Co-curating a Pop-Up Sensory Exhibition: A public final event entirely designed, facilitated, and presented by the international participants for the local community.
Tangible Results & Deliverables:
Interactive Pop-Up Sensory Exhibition open to the public.
Digital Toolkit: "Inclusive Culture: Designing Accessible Youth Arts" (a practical e-guide with methods and tips for youth workers, schools, and NGOs).
Youthpass Certificates for all participants recognizing key competences.
