Theatre of the Oppressed and Human Rights YE

When: May 2021

With this 8-days YE we want to create a space for learning and dialogue about human rights by mens of theatre of the oppressed methodology. Young people are going to come together to share which challenges human rights face in their communities, as well as to gain awareness about various socio-political issues in modern Europe. Our sharing and learning is going to take shape and gradually transform into a forum theatre play which will be shown in a local community where the project is organised.

The project has the following blocks, going from awareness about human rights towards action:
What are human rights? What human rights do I have and where do I encounter human rights in my community? How do I recognize violations of human rights?
How do I take action against violations of human rights which happen to me or which I observe in my community? How do I communicate differences?
How do I become civically engaged? Which opportunities are there for me to get involved in shaping human rights in my community? How do I engage others and make an impact?

The project has the following objectives:
Raise awareness about human rights;
Rise awareness about theatre as a way to create spaces for dialogue about human rights in our communities;
Share perspectives about human rights violations from participating countries;
Exchange ideas of ways to engage in our communities to make impact;
Reinforce collaboration between youth from participating countries;
Strengthen collaboration between partner organisations;

Participants profile:
- 16-27 years old;
Working english competence;
Motivated to explore human rights and theatre of the oppressed as a way to create spaces for dialogue
