The Silent Scream of Lake Burdur: Investigating Climate Change, Water Loss, and Regional Impacts

LAKE S.O.S. The Silent Scream of Lake Burdur: Investigating Climate Change, Water Loss, and Regional Impacts

Regional Issue: Over the past 50 years, Lake Burdur has experienced significant water loss, drought, and a disruption of its ecological balance. This situation not only affects the local environment but also negatively impacts the way of life of the surrounding communities. The threat of the lake drying up, the decreasing water resources in the region, and the growing environmental issues highlight the urgency and necessity of carrying out this project.

Educational Need: Students need to gain in-depth knowledge and practical experience on topics such as climate change, water management, sustainability, and environmental awareness. Additionally, gaining experience in an international setting will equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to develop solutions for global environmental challenges. This project offers a unique opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.

Institutional Need: Our school aims to enhance its capacity in raising environmental awareness, managing EU projects, and establishing international collaborations. This project will strengthen our school’s environmental responsibility while also improving the project management and collaboration skills of our administration and teachers at an international level.

Justification: The ecological issues in Lake Burdur present a serious local environmental problem, yet this issue must be addressed in the context of global climate change. This project aims to raise awareness and develop solutions by connecting a local environmental problem like that of Lake Burdur to a global issue such as climate change and water management. Students will learn how local problems can be addressed within a global framework, becoming more sensitive to both their local environment and environmental issues worldwide.
