The Power of Narrative

This training course will use story-telling as a key to intercultural discourse, self development and youth empowerment.

Sharing stories from different cultures
Stories, in the form of myths, legends and fairytales are an important way in which a society expresses its deepest values and collective wisdom.
They are naturally engaging, appreciable by all, and downright fun.
For these reasons sharing stories is one of the most inclusive, meaningful and powerful ways to bring people together. A good story, well told, has the power to touch people’s hearts, address their deepest concerns and bring them together in a way that few other activities can.
This training course will therefore use stories as a way to explore the values and wisdom of different cultures as a tool for intercultural dialogue. By addressing the symbolism and ‘deeper’ meaning of well known tales from diverse cultures, the universal wisdom present behind the particular cultural context of each story will emerge.

Participants will also be trained by ASHA’s in-house drama trainers, and outside expert, in the art of good story-telling.
The Training Course will offer youth workers a powerful tool for self development, Story Telling as a tool for Youth Empowerment

They will therefore be trained to set up and lead ‘story telling events’ and share the skill of storytelling with the young people they engage with.
The aim of such activity will be to i) bring young people together in a positive way ii) address their deepest concerns iii) inspire them iv) multiply the effects of the training course.
