This project will take 12 volunteers in Brazil where they will actively contribute to the sustainable development of some working realities of the area.
The project aims to develop the sensitivity of 12 young volunteers, living in Italy, Ireland and the country of the third partner, and selected according to a motivational evaluation, on some problems concerning the countries of the South of the World, as well as to enhance their skills in a multicultural and multilingual environment. The project takes place in Cidade de Goias (State of Goias - Brazil) and consists of two main roles: a first phase includes an on-site training of the group both on more general topics ( like sustainable development, human rights, the gap between North and South of the World, environmental conservation) and more specific aspects of the Brazilian reality ( slave labor, the struggle for land, land abuse); the second phase however, involves the active observation and work of the volunteers who will be entrusted by turns to four different working realities present on the area of intervention (the Pastoral da Terra, a cultural center, a farmers cooperative and a school) for which they are asked to develop, after a careful analysis carried on together with the local community, a development plan that respects all the sustainability principles learned during the first part of training. The final work will be used by young volunteers to disseminate, through pubblic meetings with the local community and Brazilian institutions and through the project website, the results of their work in Brazil. The project will have a total duration of nine months, three of which for the promotional phase, four for their stay in Brazil (inclusive of training and work), two post-arrival evaluation and dissemination of results.
