I have been working as an Enforcement and Protection Officer in Bolu Open Penal Execution Institution for about 6 years. Bolu Open Penal Execution Institution is one of the state institutions located in Bolu province under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey.
As an Enforcement and Protection Officer working in the Education and Training Service of Bolu Open Penal Execution Institution, we open courses in the fields of school education, art, social, cultural, sports and vocational training in order to enable young male convicts between the ages of 18-30 to improve themselves, to ensure that they spend their stay in the penal execution institution efficiently and to prevent them from committing crimes again after their release from the penal execution institutions and to reintegrate them into society.
It is observed that prisoners have difficulties in finding a job after their imprisonment due to their criminal past or they do not have any profession and they have financial difficulties because they cannot start their own business and make a living.
Due to their financial difficulties, ex-prisoners are more vulnerable to being manipulated, guided and abused by others, which increases the likelihood of recidivism and withdrawal from society.
Especially when young male convicts between the ages of 18-30 cannot find a job or start a business to make a living in their post-prison life, the likelihood of being dragged into crimes again increases.
In order to reduce these possibilities, we attach great importance to Vocational Training courses among the courses opened in our institution. Until today, we have given and continue to give many courses to young male inmates in the fields of business and profession such as Mother of Pearl Inlay Art, Cook Apprentice and Assistant, Wood Shaping, Upholstery, Bakery Products.
We have an Erasmus+ project called “the expert of your own business with digital” in order to improve our Vocational Training Activities and to expand the job market of our young male inmates in their post-prison life.
We have 2 goals in this project.
1- In order to enrich the content of the courses we have opened, we want to examine the business and vocational courses held in the European region. In this way, we will learn about the professions in Europe and the stories of these professions in their own language and we will teach young male convicts and detainees the professions of the European region in our courses.
2- To provide e-commerce training in order to provide e-commerce training in order to ensure the sale of products produced by young male convicts and detainees with the professions they have gained in order to sell the products they produce to the taste of European citizens outside their own country, to purchase the necessary materials from Europe, to ensure their cultural enrichment by ensuring their relations with European culture by getting to know many languages of Europe and to expand the market network of the business area.
With our Erasmus+ project called The expert of your own business with digital, we will both learn and teach the professions in Europe and expand the product network with these professions and enable young male inmates to be part of a very large business market that appeals to the European region as well as their own region after their prison life.
In this way, we aim to support young male inmates to regain their economic freedom after their prison life, to reduce the likelihood of recidivism and to increase the likelihood of their reintegration into society.
We are looking for partners for our Erasmus+ project called The expert of your own business with digital by showing examples of European vocational courses and digital business life trainings to teachers, correction officers and other prison staff working in Bolu Open Prison Institution.
In addition;
Our project is within the scope of KA1 and aims digital supported education and employment of young prisoners in prisons within the Ministry of Justice of Turkey. As Bolu Open Prison, one of our biggest advantages is that we are the first and only prison in Turkey to have ISO 500001 EnYS (Energy Policy) certification. The basic steps for successful ISO 50001 certification are;

Management approves plans
Track progress and re-evaluate energy action plans Also, due to our institutional structure, it will be easier to implement, disseminate and sustain digitally supported training and employment.
