The Digital Bridge (ICT) for Young People in Poverty Project
The Project is Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) project aimed at empowering vulnerable young people in the vulnerable community in Maramba, Livingstone, Zambia where young people have no access to computer and other hi-tech services such as internet access that is aimed at providing solutions to social and economical challenges that ICT will provide and also skills that will create opportunities for them.
New Hope Waves, Zambia is a nonprofit organization which was established in 2014 by local young people to address challenges they are facing and looking for possible solutions and was a registered organization (a company by guarantee in 2015) working as a legal entity NGO in Livingstone, Zambia to operate and implement activities; projects and programs aimed addressing issues affecting the communities such as Poverty, Illiteracy, ICT challenges, Child abuse, Diseases, Unemployment, Environmental degradations and HIV/AIDs www.newhopewaveszambia.com
Our organization is currently running some activities and programs such as a Child and Youth Sponsorship program, Sport outreach programs, Informal and Formal Education, Life skills trainings and Community development.
The Outlines of the ICT project for vulnerable young people from the age 15-35 years to make a sustainable difference in their world and we are targeting to empower 200 young people in the next 12 months.
The vulnerable young people have ICT challenges and Socio-economic problems that vulnerable young people are facing and challenged by poverty to have no training and access to Technology/Internet access and no skills in computer science to repair some computer hardware and software skills and knowledge for the developmental projects, and opportunities and lack of entrepnuership studies and activities.
The objectives of the project area follow;
-To provide the access and training for vulnerable young people to have computer knowledge
- To enhance Technology/Internet access for vulnerable young people to access to research, search for opportunities and better understanding of importance ICT for developmental projects
-To train the vulnerable young people with skills to repair, restore and maintain computers` hardware and develop software for computer that will create jobs for the affected people
- To provide entrepnuership studies that will assist vulnerable young people to start up some businesses then create jobs to improve of livelihood of vulnerable young people and their communities
- To create a conducive environment for vulnerable young people to get involved socio-economic empowerment through agricultural activities to better their communities.
The project is a designed to improve the livelihood of the vulnerable young people in vulnerable community to access to computer trainings, access to internet connections and also to provide them with business/agricultural studies.
This project will aim at empowering these vulnerable to better lives and promote ICT to create opportunities for local solutions, explore more alternatives to build a strong platform to use ICT to address their challenges and create jobs in Computer repairs, Cyber cafes, ICT solutions and Entrepneurship.
The monitoring/evaluation measures will take in place and they are follows;
-The good number of vulnerable young people having skills and getting involved in addressing their challenges.
- A great number of lives will be improved through job creation
- The operational schedule been adhered to by the trainers and the participants
- ICT having the tool/resources that vulnerable community use as the platform to address challenges and hi-techs solutions to be implemented.
The Implementation Timeline/Schedule for 36 months
- In July/August, 2016 the equipments purchases, recruitments of participants and the premises set ups
- In September, 2016 for the installation of the equipments for the project
- In October, 2016 the first session will start with 50 participants end in December, 2016
- In December, 2016 the first graduation of the participants
- In January, 2017, the second intake in admission/commence of the trainings and end in April, 2017
-In April, 2017, the third intake in session of the similar trainings and end in July, 2017
- In July, 2017, the four intake of the trainings and end in October, 2017
- In October, 2017 the first year graduation and 200 young people trained in ICT, Business and Agricultural Trainings.
