The 21St Century Grassroots Art

Project description
The use of creative arts is a good way to promote wellbeing. Making art in a group can be chaotic, fun, exploratory but enables expression and self growth. Through a group is a good way to make connections. The project will give participants space to develop their creative value. Grassroot Art describes art made by individuals with no formal artistic training. Grassroots will us ordinary materials in an extraordinary way. This approach will enable positive thinking and boost self esteem, that all contribute to improved emotional wellbeing (young minds 2016). If you feel bad about yourself, you get more depressed and it is difficult to break the cycle - an activity such as art can help to eliminate this (Young Minds 2016)

The project will create accessibility and inclusion through art, this will impact on wellbeing. Good mental health and wellbeing are central to bringing about behaviour change; the project has an overarching aim of increasing confidence and self esteem. 1 in 10 children have mental health problems, most mental health problems start in teenage years. Low self esteem can be a root cause of mental health. Dr Darren Sharpe of the Childhood and Youth Research Institute, an incredible 91% of young people said they found Zinc Arts' creative arts activities "helped them deal with their problems better", noting a "significant increase in the positive mental wellbeing" of those involved.

There has been an increasing amount of academic and policy literature devoted to the importance of the arts and culture to the wellbeing, personal growth and social development of the individual within civil society. However, very little has been explored concerning the effect of grassroots arts activities. The project will not only enable participants to have the space to explore their own creativity in a non formal approach but also contribute to further understanding of 'Grassroots Arts'.
