Storytelling for Women Empowerment

With this project we introduce storytelling and theatre tools to youth leaders and youth trainers to enable them to create inclusive spaces that empower women.

Dates: 7 Days in March 2021
Place: Group venue at the countryside in the Netherlands;

With this project we would like to introduce storytelling and theatre tools to youth workers, youth leaders and youth trainers so that to enable them to create inclusive spaces that empower women.
We will gradually introduce storytelling as a tool to explore and understand images of a woman which prevail in our contemporary society and to get to know how they were shaped through various myths and archetypes. Gradually we will question various stereotypes and stigma so that we can envision the future which we would like to live in.
With this project we not only like to work on our professional development, but also trigger critical thought: Who are women? What does it mean to be a woman? Why do we have such an image? On a broader scale the project also aims at provoking critical thought on gender as such.
With this project we aim at creating a space where youth workers, youth leaders and youth trainers could come together to share their experiences, as well as to learn about ways to create inclusive spaces for female empowerment through storytelling and theatre methods.
The main aim of this project is to strengthen professional profiles of youth workers, youth leaders and youth trainers through introduction of Storytelling methodology for women empowerment, which will result in higher quality of youth work in our communities on fostering social inclusion and celebration of diversity.
Based on the needs assessment of the target groups, the project has the following objectives:
Strengthen competencies of the participants in creating safer spaces for women using such methods as storytelling; theatre of the oppressed and playback theatre.
Raise awareness about gender-based violence and stigma, as well as way to address those topics through various interactive storytelling methodologies;
Raise awareness about social exclusion based on gender and provide the participants with practical knowledge to support women in local communities;
To help youth workers, leaders and trainers from participating organisations explore storytelling as a new way to create spaces for women empowerment;
To reinforce the capacity and international scope of organisations active in the youth field to promote social inclusion with educational activities and initiatives to address the needs of young people;
Build capacity of participating organisations in providing quality non-formal education;
reinforce cooperation between partner organisations and encourage further implementation of joint initiatives;
Professional development of participants is planned in line with the European Training Strategy in the field of youth and supports acquisition of competences such as: flexibility, accessibility and responsiveness to the needs of young people; goal setting and recognition of achievements; design of interactive educational activities; ability to create safe, supportive environments enabling young people to experience life, to make mistakes and to participate with their peers in an enjoyable setting; to understand and facilitate individual and group learning processes; intercultural competence; etc.

The TC will apply a participation fee of 80 EUR. The fee will be used to cover additional costs for the trainers.
