Social Inclusion of Young People in Rural Areas

Establishment of Youth Cultural Center of Bistrica and Bronzani Majdan

The former municipality of Bronzani Majdan was inhabitted by over 18 000 people in 1960s, who lived in 15 villages. Afterwards, the popullation emigrated to the city of Banja Luka and further. The municipality of Bronzani Majdan was abolished and included into the municipality of Banja Luka. However, since then this region only withered. Young people left if they had any opportunity.
In 2018, finally, some progress begun. The road to Sanski Most (nearest town in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) is being constructed, so the people will be traveling through Bronzani Majdan on their way to this part of Bosnia. An Italian shoe factory opened and 200 people got a chance to work and make living.
Two primary schools are active, with district units, but there is a constant tendency of falling pupil numbers. Cultural and educational contents almost do not exist.
Roughly, 800 children live in this area. Unfortunately, there is no accurate data. We did not manage to get the information we wanted in local communities, but we came to figures using data from primary schools. Elementary school "Mladen Stojanović" is located in Bronzani Majdan and has three regional units: Kmećani, Melina and Stratinska. The total number of pupils is 216, plus 16 enrolled for the upcoming school year. In Bistrica there is the elementary school "Miroslav Antić" and has two regional units: Borkovići and Pervan. The total number of pupils is 205, plus 17 enrolled for the upcoming school year.

Except in these two primary schools, pupils from these areas also travel to “Sveti Sava” school. The number of children traveling to the school of “Sveti Sava” on Laus is 250. We have determined this number according to the list of students using monthly tickets for public transport (traveling over 4 kilometers). The total number of pupils according to this data is 704.
