Social Farming

Social Farming is a youth exchange targeted at individuals aged 18-30 years old that are interested in leading a farm with a focus on community approach to agricultural activities and finding new methods in agriculture connected with cultivating interpersonal relationships. Project is aimed at inspiring youth for better future through communal agriculture practices that provide advantages in sustainability, openness, self-sufficiency, independence, and food security. Considering the fact that there is a high unemployment rate in agriculture and in general it is harder to find employment in rural areas it is vital to enable young people with fewer opportunities from rural areas to increase their competence in the field of social agriculture so they can use their newly obtained skills and knowhow to test, recreate and benefit their localities, areas of involvement or particular farming activities.
Project envisages use of the informal methods of education that include camp site at organic agricultural farm, lectures, team work, icebreakers, facilitated discussions, evaluations. Participants will focus on such agricultural practices like beekeeping, fruit-growing, crops and animal husbandry.
Objectives of the project are:
• Increase of youth participation and social opportunity in rural areas,
• Promotion of self-sustainable agriculture,
• Development of participants' knowledge and competence in key concepts of inter-cultural learning through exploration of cultural diversity from a perspective of everyday life,
• Better understanding of differences and similarities among European villages,
• Increase of social and environmental responsibility among youth,
• Enhancing the social inclusion, active citizenship and employability of young people with fewer opportunities
