Sharing Music

It is our aim as a Irish Music Society is to meet like minded organisations, to do a cultural music exchange, while also providing valuable experiences to all.

Spink Comhaltas promotes Traditional Irish music, song and dance across County Laois for children and adults to enjoy. We are in located in the heart of Ireland, over an hour from Dublin and Cork Airports. Our membership comes from a wide area playing and participating in various activities such as musical competitions, habitual traditional Irish music sessions, helping our members to develop as both musicians and individuals by building confidence, self-worth, and respect for one another.

Our aim with this youth exchange, should we find a suitable exchange partner, would be to provide our students with an opportunity to meet like minded individuals who share a similar passion for music and performance through a cultural music exchange programme involving participating members of our society.

The exchange would provide our students with a fun, informal opportunity to experience a new culture, expose them to new languages and expand on their existing knowledge of music and repertoire's through participation in various collaborative projects such as instrument workshops, music tutoring and instrument master classes.

It is hoped that the outcome of these workshops would produce a body of work, drawing on both Irish and newly learned local music, good enough to preform for local consumption at the end of a 8-10 day period.

Examples of previous work and musical competencies can be found on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SpinkComhaltas/
