Reviving the Traditional Marching Band Culture of Amasya (UNESCO IFCD Application)

Reviving Amasya’s 161-year-old band tradition with youth music workshops and an international gathering to promote heritage and cultural diversity.

Amasya, a historic city in the Black Sea Region of Türkiye, has maintained a municipal marching band tradition for over 161 years. Recognizing the value of this intangible cultural heritage, Amasya Municipality is preparing a project proposal for the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD).
The project aims to preserve and revitalize this musical tradition by organizing music training workshops for local youth, ensuring knowledge transfer between generations. Additionally, an international band gathering will be held in Amasya to celebrate cultural diversity and promote intercultural dialogue.
We are looking for international partners—municipalities, NGOs, cultural institutions, or youth organizations—with experience in music education, youth engagement, cultural heritage, or artistic exchange. Together, we aim to create a creative, inclusive, and sustainable model for safeguarding traditional music practices while empowering young people.
