RESPECT FOOTBALL REJECT RACISM

A celebration of different cultures to tackle racism within football. Intercultural learning to increase understanding and tolerance of others.

Racism in football is increasing at an alarming rate. Cyber racism on site such as Twitter has provided an additional platform for abuse. In some countries, teams have even had to play matches behind closed doors as a result of racism. Racism stems from players as well as fans (e.g. John Terry, Chelsea FC).

Policies and consequences of football racism need to be challenged. Be part of a movement to combat this through our younger generations.

We want to bring together a diverse range of young people aged 16-19, including participants who are not in education, employment or training or who may have a criminal record.

Participants will plan a football tournament and work together to coach younger players. A Respect campaign created by participants will be used to lobby against football racism. A performance and awards ceremony will be organised, promoting good sportmanship and tolerance.
