The project is designed to increase physical activity and community bonding while preserving intangible cultural heritage.
REPLAY is a Not-for-profit European sport event that revitalises traditional games by transforming them into a modern, team-based “checkpoints” event format (scavenger-hunt style), where participants move through an outdoor route and complete playful challenges at activity stations. The project is designed to increase physical activity and community bonding while preserving intangible cultural heritage in a way that is engaging for today’s audiences.
A core innovation is the integration of inclusive design, zero-waste event delivery, and light digital features (e.g., digital navigation/interactive mapping) to improve accessibility, reduce environmental impact, and make the model easy to replicate. REPLAY also strengthens intergenerational exchange by involving older community members as mentors and cultural knowledge-holders alongside younger participants.
Objectives
1. Increase participation in traditional games by delivering an engaging, modernised event format that motivates regular physical activity.
2. Improve accessibility and inclusion by adapting games and roles so people with diverse abilities and backgrounds can participate meaningfully and safely.
3. Promote active lifestyles—especially among young people—through enjoyable, culturally rooted movement-based activities.
4. Reduce environmental impact of community sport/cultural events by applying practical zero-waste principles and sustainable practices.
5. Foster intergenerational dialogue and knowledge transfer through structured roles for older mentors, facilitators, and storytellers.
6. Strengthen cultural exchange and mutual understanding by integrating diverse traditional games into one shared framework.
7. Produce a replicable methodology and toolkit that enables other communities to run REPLAY-style events independently.
