Redeem Med

The Mediterranean Basin is highlighted as one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the impacts of global warming.

The Mediterranean Basin is highlighted as one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the impacts of global warming and its climates are often described as ‘hot spots’ of climate change. Climate change scenarios are expected to strongly influence not only the average of surface temperatures, the coastal erosion and the rainfall patterns, but also the status of the biodiversity in the region. Subsequently the social and economic systems as well as the public health it is likely to deteriorate.
The Redeem Med project’s objectives are the following:
● Enlightenment about the climate change and awareness raising of the impacts in the Mediterranean, aiming at the mobilization of the participants towards the prevention of the repercussions on a regional and international level.
● Exchange of experiences and perceptions on experiential grounds.
● Interdisciplinary approach of the various aspects of the subject and facilitation on decision-making in addressing the issues.
● Enhancement of the individual action, and
● Interaction with the local community.
The above - mentioned objectives will be reached through implementing various activities, e.g. presentations, workshops, distribution of info materials, info day at the community, events in the community.
The project will be held in Corinth, an easily accessible coastal city one hour away from Athens. Both the Corinthian and Saronic gulfs, which tend to rise since the classical period onwards, are closely associated with the city. The extreme seismicity, the wide biodiversity system close to extinction, the coastal erosion and the floods define the profile of the city, which is largely affected by the climate change.
The program is addressed to young people (18-30) with fewer opportunities, who don't have access to higher education and/or they don’t come from urban centers. There are no restrictions on gender, religion or any other kind of preference.
Hopefully, participants will have the chance to interact with local people having a different cultural background, to share their opinion and experiences about the subject of the exchange program, to gain important knowledge, to explore the impacts of climate change in each country and engage in prevention practices.
