Empowering rural youth with the skills, confidence, and critical thinking to drive local
democratic change through inclusive, intercultural, non-formal learning.
In many rural areas/regions, democratic participation is often perceived as something that
only happens in capital cities. Based on that reality, young people from regions have a lack
of possibilities to engage in democratic life. Young people face a participation gap due to
geographical isolation and a lack of access to civic education and do not have appropriate
skills and knowledge on how to take part in democratic changes. Youth from small
cities/villages are not equipped with the right tools to deal with modern challenges.
Through non-formal education methods and peer learning, the project aims to transform
rural youth from passive observers into active citizens, ensuring that democracy is not just
a concept they read about, but a tool they use to improve their own communities.

Objectives :
● To equip rural youth with a deep
understanding of democratic values
and critical thinking skills to navigate
information and evaluate social issues
from diverse perspectives.
● Build participants' self-reliance and
motivation to actively be involved, lead
or support democratic changes and
local initiatives within their home
communities.
● To enhance young people’s
communication skills in an
intercultural environment enabling
youth to advocate for their rights and
participate in democratic life
effectively.

Learning Outcomes:
● Participants will be able to identify core
democratic values and apply critical
thinking to distinguish between
democratic principles and
misinformation in their local contexts.
● Participants will be able to implement
non-formal workshops about
democracy.
● Participants will be able to design and
initiate local civic actions, moving from
passive awareness to becoming
motivated drivers of democratic change
in rural areas.
● Participants will be able to confidently
express their ideas and advocate for
youth-related issues, using effective
communication tools to engage with
local decision-makers.
