Open Your Heart; Give Me Your Time

Project aimed at building a better future for children from emotionally vulnerable backgrounds by integrating them in a non-formal learning program.

This project is planned as a response to a challenge we discovered in our community. Our association has been active in a local school, carrying out activities for more than 2 years now. Having gotten to know the children and youth attending this school, we identified serious gaps in their lives. Their issues come mainly from psychological and emotional neglect. Perhaps the most common and most insidious form of neglect is translated by the lack of attention from adults to children, the lack of physical contact, the nonexistence of expression of affection and/or words of appreciation.

We aim to intervene and remedy this situation by involving 6 young people in a 9-month-long project of non-formal activities in school. The foreign volunteers' presence in the lives of these children will consolidate their self-esteem and will help consolidate competences for all.

The activities envisioned for this project are:
* non-formal activities with the school's students (ages 6 - 18);
* workshops for the development of creativity, boosting the untapped talent and skills of children;
* activities related to ecological responsibility and environment protection education;
* sports activities;
* humanitarian activities in the community; character development activities;
* Awareness campaigns on topics connected with children's needs etc.

The venue for the activities is the city of Arad, Western Romania. The stage of activities will last for 9 months, and we will host 6 volunteers.

On the other hand, the project beneficiaries will be children and youth from the community of Arad, between 6 - 18 years old, who attend the "Iosif Moldovan" School, and who have fewer opportunities than their peers. We look for 6 partner-organizations (E.U.) who could each send 1 volunteer in our project, for a period of 9 months.
