New Energies & New Curriculum for Engineering Students

Reducing carbon emissions while lowering the cost of energy are critical challenges of today’s Europe. As importance of renewable energy (RE) significantly and rapidly increase, the development and/or update of the RE curriculum is a critical need across the Continent. The main objective of the project is to develop a common, standardized, and competitive renewable energy curriculum for engineering schools based on recent technological developments through a public, private and non-profit partnership in Europe.

The project will include various activities and five different intellectual outputs. The first output is “a research report on renewable energy curriculum” followed by “curriculum development in RE”, “impact of RE curriculum,” “renewable energy hand guide,” and “proceeding book of the international congress on RE.” All project outputs will be available for open and online distant access of people in Europe, and the world. In addition, the project will have 3 training activities for students and and trainers. The winter school for students will be implemented in Ankara while the summer school will be implemented in a partner country. The training for trainers/academic staff will be organized in Ankara.

The Project includes 2 domestic and 4 foreign partners and will be implemented in five different countries in Europe. There will be also universities as well as a union and chamber of commerce from Turkey as associated partners. The project will last 36 months. The project involves 30 students and 70 staff members including trainees from partner organizations. It involves gender mainstreaming and participant of students with fewer opportunities. The project will address similar needs of millions of students and academic staff in Europe through five intellectual outputs. Methodology of the project consists of step by step integrated scientific approach based on practical needs of students, academicians, and RE industry.
