“Ne buvons pas la tasse”

« Ne buvons pas la tasse » is a French expression. It means you should care not to drown by avoiding swallowing water involuntarily.

The region so called « Communauté de communes de l’île d’Oleron » is an administrative french body for the Island called « Ile d’Oléron ». It is located in a little town called Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron in the south-west of France. Its scope of responsibilities covers 8 municipalities and its organisation includes 14 services that cover various issues such as economics, social, environment, youth issues within the island.

The service that deal with child and young issues is called « Enfance Jeunesse ». Its responsibility is to look after early childhood, childhood and youth structures of the territory. It also sets up projects to mobilize these audiences.

The context

Because climate change is already happening on Ile d'Oleron, it is predictable that future lifestyles will be impacted too: health, resources, and economic activities might be affected. We can also predict that the different environments such as the aquatic environment are likely to evolve. These impacts need to be carefully considered in order to anticipate them and reduce the consequences.
Thus, the « Communauté de communes de l’île d’Oléron » is looking for a partner-country that is facing the same constraints as ours.

If you are facing the same situation, this proposal is for you!
The project "Ne buvons pas la tasse" should be carried out by young people from 13 to 17 years old and during a period of 7 days.

In total, it is 24 young people who will have access to this project: 12 french young people from the island of Oléron and 12 young people from the partner-country.

Our objective is to develop the youth’s environment awareness by :
- learning about climate changes and local actions around the world
- and by let them build and propose pragmatic actions plans for Ile d’Oléron.

To do so, we will collaborate with local partners who will bring us scientific, ecological, environmental information ...

We will also carry out cultural and sportive activities around ecological concerns in order to discover different beach cleaning solutions, such as La Rochelle’s aquarium laboratory visit, paddle practices, diving practices ...

At the end of the week, children will present their pragmatic preconisation to protect Ile d’Oléron’s environment.
