It is planned to collaborate with European schools to tackle "Early School Leaving" by motivating students with social skills education and Mindfulness.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Reducing the average “Early School Leaving” rate in Europe to at least 10% is one of the strategies of European Union 2020. In this project, it is planned to collaborate with some European schools to tackle this important problem by motivating students with positive reinforcements in the scope of social skills education and educational psychology considering student, teacher, parent, and society factors.
While "Early School Leaving " is an ordinary condition for students, it is unfortunatelly a disadvantage for the EU. "Early School Leaving" is an important issue that increase the likelihood of involvement in a crime by leading students to different pursuits The most valid precaution that can be taken about this issue is reducing the absenteeism rates and increasing the positive attitudes of students towards school. In other words, students with negative attitudes towards school can be considered as the students having potential to leave school early. In this project, the approaches for negative attitudes towards school and lack of motivation in different European schools having similar issues will be examined. Turning negative attitudes into positive attitudes is in the hands of us, teachers, and educational institutions. With this project; our students’ attitudes towards school will be identified and 50 students with the lowest attitudes will be given systematic positive reinforcements by different teachers for 3 months.
In social skills education; the student communities, courses, and tournaments are identified by student questionaries and the students are given opportunities to raise themselves in a social and cultural sense according to the areas they preferred. The 15 most favorite activities that can be performed in our school were chosen by also taking the school admninistration’s opinions and suggestions into account. 1.Sign Language 2.Street Animals 3.Graffiti 4.Football 5.Chess 6.Pilates 7.Badminton 8.Bocce 9.Drama 10.School Newspaper 11.Theatre 12.Table Tennis 13.Trekking 14.Basketball 15.Handball.
We are planning to get the support of Eryaman Public Education Center, Etimesgut Municipality, and Non-Governmental Organizations to start the courses and help the student societies to work with professionals. At the end of the project, we are planning to apply the same attitude scale again to assess the changes in the attitudes of students towards school.
